OmniaHD to use OMAP3440(800Mhz)?

This isn't really official but there are some rumors claiming that Samsung i8910 OmniaHD will use OMAP3440 instead of OMAP3430 in the final product. According to the official site of Texas Instrument, The creator of OMAP Application processors, OMAP 3430 CANNOT decode or incode HD Videos while OMAP 3440 CAN decode or encode HD Videos.

OMAP3440:
"The OMAP3440 leverages TI’s high performance IVA™ 2+ multimedia accelerator to support 720p HD video record and playback, unleashing user creativity behind the lens."

OMAP3440 is a superscalar ARM® Cortex™-A8 that provides 800 MHz of performance while OMAP3430 provides 600Mhz.

In one of there reply in one comment in there OmniaHD Video at YouTube, CellulareMagazine.it also said that Samsung will use 800Mhz in ther final product of OmniaHD. But still, it is just a rumors, according to Samsung Mobile Inventor, OmniaHD will still use OMAP3430.

YouTube HD Camera Trick Challenge

A Samsung promotional video was spotted in Youtube. The YouTube HD Camera Trick Challenge, where Samsung are challenging viewers to guess how they do the trick with the Samsung OmniaHD (i8910 HD).

"OUR CHALLENGE: GUESS HOW WE DID THIS. This clip was shot on an I8910 HD phone, a new camera phone just released by Samsung with an 8 megapixel camera that can actually record and output video in HD format. It was shot in one take, with no post production or special effects of any kind. Everything you see here was done "in-camera". Our challenge to you is to figure out how we did it. Hint: it's worth watching in HD..."

Reason why to buy Samsung OmniaHD

More or less two months to go before we can see Samsung i8910 OmniaHD in the market. Here I listed the top 7 reasons why to buy Samsung i8910 OmniaHD.

1. The 3.7” AMOLED Capacitive Touchscreen – AMOLED Technology is brighter than any TFT devices like n97, It consume about 30% less power so that the battery will last longer, It has better contrast ratio. Samsung OmniaHD uses a capacitive touchscreen unlike n97 which uses resistive. Capacitive touchscreen has greater sensitivity compare to resistive – you don’t need a pressure to make things work in a capacitive touchscreen it just need you electrons.

2. The 720p HD Recording/Playback – Samsung OmniaHD can record up to 720p, which is called HD. OmniaHD is the first phone that can record in HD. It can record 720p (1280 x 720) at 24 frames per seconds. There are also some other resolution that can be set like D1 (720 x 480) and VGA (640 x 480) at 30 fps. Video Playback is very impressive, it can supports H.263, H.264, Divx, XviD, WMV, MPEG4, RV, and FLV format. Watching it on a 3.7” AMOLED screen is so amazing.

3. The 8 Mega Pixel Camera Auto Focus – OmniaHD is using the same sensor as the Samsung Innov8 which is the best camera phone today. Some of it features are: Geo-tagging, WDR, face detection, smile detection and blink detection.

4. ARM Cortex-A8 600 MHz processor; 3D Graphics HW Accelerator – Samsung OmniaHD is using the next generation OMAP3 chip set which will give us 2 or 3 times better graphic performance than ARM11 processors, which n97 uses. Samsung OmniaHD is the first mobile device which will have OpenGL ES 2.0 which is capable of providing superior graphics performance.

5. Symbian S50 rel.5 Operating System – Symbian is one of the best Operating System for mobile having wide variety of official applications as well as 3rd party apps is one of the reason. Samsung did a good job in customization of the UI, from changing some icons to make it “finger touch friendly” to implementing touchwiz.

6. TouchWiz 2 – Not long from now, Samsung will implement a new UI which is TouchWiz 2 which user can add more Widgets from Yahoo, Google, and AccuWeather.

7. Others: Battery 1500mah and DLNA Technology – The presence of AMOLED screen and 1500mah battery will give a phone a stand by time up to 600 hours!
Using DLNA Technology, we can watch HD videos from Samsung OmniaHD on a TV. TV-Out Cable is also available, but no official information about it.

Omnia HD at Mobile City Online

Samsung OmniaHD is getting cheaper and cheaper! Good news huh? I just saw Samsung i8910 OmniaHD at Mobile City Online and it's price is even cheaper than the Samsung OmniaHD at Play.com (UK). Samsung OmniaHD 8GB (Black) cost about 699.99 USD. I really don't why the word "Black" is there, maybe it is true that there will be more colors. Anyway, we can't be sure that this information is true. True or not, i really don't care cost i like the black version. I'm just hoping that the price won't go any higher than 700 USD.

OmniaHD not Dropping Its Name

The rumor is not true, but not false. Samsung contacted GSM Arena to clarify something. OmniaHD will drop its name but only in some few countries. Most of the countries will still be using the name OmniaHD.

"With the launch of Samsung i8910 OmniaHD just behind the corner, it has obviously turned out that there are commercial issues with selling the device under the originally announced name - Samsung Omnia HD - but only in some countries." -from GSM Arena

Goodbye Metal Battery Cover

Mobile Inventor hosted a picture of the Samsung OmniaHD, guess what, the back part is a black glossy cover. There will be no more metal cover, Why SAMSUNG? why?. Metal cover just look so cool and some what inovative. We really can't do anything now but to hope that it will be change.

Design of a phone is a very big factor. Maybe they put a cheap looking glossy plastic to make the phone cheaper in price. Oh well, at least the 3.7" OLED Capacitive touchscreen is still in there.

All About Symbian Review: i8910 OmniaHD

All About Symbian is one of my favorite site when it comes to review. They really give full details of each device that they review or news that they talk about. Now, i8910 OmniaHD got a review from them, it review every aspect of the phone, from its hardware design to its software design. For Samsung OmniaHD Fans out there, I recommend to read the review to be amaze of what OmniaHD can do. You can read the review by clicking the links bellow:

Samsung i8910 OmniaHD approved by FCC

Goodnews! Samsung OmniaHD was approved by the FCC or the Federal Communication Commission. Every phone must be approved by the FCC to be release in our markets, the bad news is OmniaHD only been passed with 1900MHz 3G. Meaning, it will not work on North America. But still, we are all hoping that there will be changes before it will be out in the American market.

Update: A clarification from one of our readers. "Just to clarify, the OmniaHD will work in the US on any GSM network for voice and EDGE data and will also support AT&T's 3G network in most places since AT&T uses the 1900 3G primarily."

Thanks for the info.

OmniaHD Dropping its Name?

Samsung OmniaHD will not lift its name anymore, it is dropping its name. Now, it will only be called i8910. What is wrong with OmniaHD? its a good name in my opinion. Samsung's reason was to avoid any confusion related to the Windows Mobile powered Omnia phones. That is the only thing that change, it will be still have the same feature as before.

Is this really true? for me, its too late for them to change it.
Maybe they are planning for a new name for this device?

The Two Kinds of OmniaHD

Incase you don’t know, there are already two kind of Prototype of Samsung OmniaHD. The first one is what GSM Arena shows in its first review of Samsung OmniaHD which is, I think, from Barcelona while the second one is the latest review by All About Symbian which is from United Kingdom. So what is the difference? Nothing really, except for its back part. Here are some pictures of the two Samsung OmniaHD:

From GSM Arena:
Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

From All about Symbian:
Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

See the difference? The one from GSM Arena is a METAL case while the one in All about Symbian is just a cheap glossy plastic. We really don’t have any information about the final product but the author of the review in all about symbian said that what he had is fairly close the final product. Well, it’s a very big disappointment. I am really hoping that the back part of Samsung OmniaHD will be a metal case. Glossy plastic just looks very cheap.

Here is the complete News about it by www.allaboutsymbian.com (with video):

Omnia HD: Personal Inductive Charging

We really don't know if it will be on the final hardware, nor its true. April fools anyone?

Update:
Nope, not true. Happy April Fools everyone!

First Face Off: Samsung Omnia HD vs. Sony Ericsson Idou

This year’s Mobile World Congress has unveiled the two greatest phones of 2009. Which are Samsung OmniaHD and Sony Ericsson Idou.

Samsung OmniaHD has attracted so many Mobile Phone fans as they unveiled the largest OLED touchscreen in a mobile phone, including an 8mp Camera which can record a High Definition Video (720p) while Sony Ericsson Idou made some noise with its 12mp camera, the first 12mp camera phone in the world.

So what is better? We could not answer you right now; let’s dissect the part of each phone to compare. I know, this is a Samsung OmniaHD blog, but don’t worry I wont be bias.

CAMERA
At the first look, Sony Ericsson Idou won this part; it got 12 Megapixel camera with Auto Focus, a xenon flash, face and smile detection, etc. while the Samsung Omnia HD has 8 Megapixel camera with Auto Focus, a led flash, and pretty much the same features with Idou. But don’t be blind with the Megapixel war, Megapixel is not the key to have a good pictures. We must consider the lens, sensor, etc. but there are rumors that Sony Ericsson Idou will be using the best technology for a mobile phone which is the Exmor. (You can google it) But still, it is a rumor and since, the final version of the two phones hasn’t come out yet, so we cannot really decide which is better. Don’t worry ill be posting a review of the two phones when the final version came out.

Winner: None

DISPLAY
No question about it, Samsung OmniaHD is the winner in this part. It has the biggest screen of all; the 3.7” OLED capacitive touchscreen is just so amazing. OLED are giving the pictures its perfect color plus it is more economical. Sony Ericsson has 3.5” resistive touchscreen.

Winner: Samsung OmniaHD

DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHT
Idou is smaller and lighter compare to OmniaHD, OmniaHD has a dimension of 123 x 58 x 12.9 mm and a weight of 149g while Idou has a dimension of 111 x 54 x 15 mm and a weight of 133g. Of course, we want a lighter device, so in this round Idou is the winner. The 3.7” screen of OmniaHD has its downside huh?

Winner: Sony Ericsson Idou

MUSIC
OmniaHD has a 3.5mm jack, while Idou has none. But we really don’t know what Entertainment Unlimited can bring to us. OmniaHD has the same music player with the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music. Since Sony Ericsson hasn’t release its full specs, we cannot decide on this one.

Winner: None

VIDEO RECORDING AND PLAYBACK
OmniaHD has it all, it can record a High Definition Video at 24 frames per second, it can play a High Definition Video (720p), and it can play DivX/XviD/WMV/MP4 format. It is one of the main features of Samsung OmniaHD while we have no news about Idou when it comes to video recording and playback. But I think even Idou will have the same specs with OmniaHD when it comes to video recording and playback, OmniaHD will still be the winner because of its display.

Winner: Samsung OmniaHD

FINAL WORDS
There are still so many other parts that is not included in this review, like the battery, the storage, etc. because mostly, they are all still prototypes. In the case of Idou, only the 12 Megapixel, and some features of OS, are shown in MWC 2009. So as of now, we cannot really compare the two, we just show you some basic comparison to know more about the phones.

The Winner: None. Don’t worry, just like what I said earlier, I will be posting another review of the two phones when they came out.
