Samsung Unpacked?

Samsung Unpacked?
Three phones huh? are they M8000, S8000 and I8000?

According to GSM Arena, I8000 or Omnia2 is a WinMo device that got 3.7" AMOLED screen (pretty much the same with OmniaHD huh?) and has a 8.1MP camera. I8000 is a successor of I900 which is the original Omnia.

S8000 or Jet is pretty much like I8000 but without OS same with M8910 Pixon12 while M8000 maybe an Android phone? I really don't know.. Maybe S8000 is the Android or the other way around. The only thing that is confirmed is that the three are packed with AMOLED screens.

Physically, the design of the three are pretty much the same. They have cubic like button on the center.

A WinMo device? Wow, thanks Samsung, now I really don't know what to get! The design of the three phones are much better than Omnia HD!

I8910 OmniaHD, Will I get it or not?

I still don't know if I will get the phone or what. Currently, I have a N82, which is a great phone. Xenon Flash just do it, everything I need for a mobile phone is here. But its been a year and a half since I got this phone and I really want to upgrade it. When I saw the OmniaHD, it is really a 'wow' for me, except for a led flash since I am really a fan of Xenon flash.

OmniaHD is a good upgrade for my N82 but when I heard some problems like the quality of audio in Video Recording, I think again, I really don't use the video recording that much anyway but it is still better if it has a better quality. What if if go to a concert and I want to record at least one song? What if we have a project and we need to use the phone for video recording? What if we forget to bring a camcorder? OmniaHD with that kind of audio quality can't be a replacement but my n82 can be.

I really can't decide. I know, OmniaHD still got everything, form a phone that has a fast UI to one of the best camera phone but my n82 got also everything. Its camera is superb especially with a xenon flash and also it is one of the best nokia phone out there. I am thinking of getting Satio since it has a xenon flash and a good VGA video recording. According to GSM arena, if ever, it will be the best VGA video recording phone around plus I think it will be having a good quality audio in video recording but October is a long long long way to go and I dont like to wait anymore. I been waiting since February but if ever Samsung will do nothing to fix the OmniaHD, I have no choice but to wait.

N97 is a NO NO for me, I really don't like it since it has a weaker CPU than my n82! I heared that it lags when the transition effect is on and beside, I really don't need those 32gb of memory. But a good software support of Nokia is a big plus for me.

I am tinking of getting some HTC products but when I saw that the camera was a joke, I forget it. Why they can't do a phone with a good camera? WinMo is a good OS, I really like it since it is open source. I prefer it than symbian.

Samsung Unpacked
is also one of the reason, It sounds promising. I am hoping that it is better than OmniaHD in my views. I mean, what I need is a good camera at least 5mp with a xenon flash, fast UI (pretty much the same with OmniaHD), complete features like the OmniaHD + FM transmitter and I HOPE THAT IT IS A SMARTPHONE. Having WinMo 6.5 and a qwerty keyboard is a bonus.

What makes me still think to get OmniaHD?
-Its fast UI
-AMOLED scratch resistant screen
-Fast CPU + GPU
-Some features in Video recording like slow-mo and fast-mo
-Great camera
-Divx Support

What makes me to think not to get OmniaHD?
-I really don't like the design
-Too Big
-Audio problems
-Worried about the battery
-Bad Support
-I want a good resistive screen, I want to use a stylus
-I want to have a WinMo device
-No Xenon

Maybe I will just wait for June 15. If ever they put something like WinMo(or android/symbian) + Good camera with Xenon, I will go for it. But if ever they will not, maybe I will just wait for a firmware update for OmniaHD and buy it, or I will just wait for Satio.

I love my n82, It's Xenon flash is superb and I think Satio, having a Xenon Flash, is a great replacement but OmniaHD just offer so much goodies in its multimedia side.

A Failure?

Is OmniaHD i8910 a failure? I really don't know, there are just so many problems regarding to the phone. N97 has a weaker CPU but no one is questioning the software support of Nokia, I mean the N97 is all about the internet, no question ask, it got everything about it from Internet Widget to its software support everything is flowless about it so no need for a snappy CPU while OmniaHD is all about its multimedia side. The phone has a good 8MP camera, HD Video Recording, nice music player visual effects, and yes a good CPU.

But what makes a phone a "GOOD PHONE"? The answer is a good software support from its creator. Samsung is just not good doing these things right. They got all the power but they are just ignoring it. Look at Innov8, it is really a good phone but some problems make it really bad, some says that "it is nothing but a good camera".

So you are asking, what is the problem about OmniaHD anyway? Here I will answer you.

1. The number one problem of OmniaHD is its bad audio quality in Video Recording, do you call that a HD videos when the audio is just so terrible? Common Samsung, this is not we want. Low-quality AMR Narrow Band codec at 8000Hz 16 bit 2 channel 12.8 Kbps bit rate is just plane stupid. HERE you can see a sample of its quality. And also did you heard about the problem with audio sync with video? Now that really sucks.

2. Battery life, when I first heard the battery life goes about 600hours in Standby when it was still in Protos, I said "WTF 600hours???!" but now, "WTF 6hours??!!" Now that is crazy! One of the Symbian Freak member, Dogmann wrote an impressive review of the phone, he said "The fastest and smoothest s60 device" but now look what he is saying "Oh well back to my trusty and reliable Bold that looks like it's going to beat my E90's ownership record. I'm now waiting to see just when the N900 the Nokia Tablet is due to arrive as that is now the devcie that intrests me the most". Some says that there are some solution on this problem like changing the packet data connection to "When Needed"and turning the Video sharing off but heck? it doesnt "really" solve the problem, I mean, a firmware update should solve this.

3. Samsung PC suite, aside from copying the PC suite of nokia, the latest PC suite of Samsung just don't recognize the OmniaHD. How great is that?

4. Java Problem is very disappointing, experiencing some freezing of the phone while running Java application? You can get it here on OmniaHD. Here I quoted something from Bec "
Please note that by heap it just is a part of the ram memory. It's not a different memory. Samsung could fix it probably by just changing a simple value. Unfortunately they never bother to do anything..."

5. Samsung has a record of poor record of "software support". Actually, some of these problems of OmniaHD are also problems of Innov8 like having bad quality audio of in Video recording and poor battery life. Samsung NEVER fix it, and they never will. So my hope for fixing the problems of OmniaHD is gone. I really don't think Samsung will do it. Here is what they are doing, release the phone, release some few firmware updates with nothing on it, then just leave it unsupported.

I really don't know what Samsung is thinking. The specification of this phone is great, but I think they just wasting it. Thinking of buying the phone? think twice! My advice is to wait for a firmware update that will fix these problems. If ever they will fix it. LOL!

There are so many alternatives around, like N97 and Satio. I know, OmniaHD is just the best, but I don't think it will really give us what we need. Well, if you love to charge almost everyday, twice a day, or you don't need a a good audio quality in Video recording, or you love your phone freezing while playing a Java games, then buy the OmniaHD now. N97 offers what OmniaHD offers except for much better Camera and a lot of features in Video recording while Satio is just the same with N97 (both having TFT resistive touch screen and a VGA video recording) with a good camera minus the qwerty keyboard. And I think the support of the two phone are greatly better than OmniaHD.

Me? I am thinking of buying something else. I still love the OmniaHD, but if they will not fix it, I don't think I will get it. I am waiting for this event: http://www.samsungunpacked.com/
I am actually waiting for a WinMO 6.5 Device with a Xenon Flash in it.

A 12MP + Xenon Camera Phone From Samsung

A all new Camera phone from Samsung has just shake the web with its 12MP camera plus Xenon, pretty much the same specification with Satio, Samsung M8910 Pixon12 is the newest camera phone form Samsung. I know I know, it is not about OmniaHD but it is worth mentioning. M8910 (pretty much the same code with omniaHD huh?) got 3.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen(480 x 800), 12MP Camera (28mm wide angle lens) and Xenon and Led flash for video with a lot feutures like: Touch autofocus tracking, Geo-tagging, face, smile and blink detection, wide dynamic range and Smart Auto mode. The Phone is also capable of Video Recording up to D1 Resolution, It has 150MB on storage plus expandable tru MicroSD, GPS, WIFI, Stereo FM Radio with RDS, DivX/XviD/H.263/H.264/WMV/MP4 player.

Note: This is not Symbian, or even a smartphone. It is just a camera phone just like the other great phones from Samsung.

Camera Flash Test In The Dark

Another good news from the Symbian Freak forum, (it is not actually that good), A member name RVIRGA test the Camera Flash of OmniaHD comparing it to N82 and 5800 showing that Dual Led flash doesnt mean a better light or more powerful.

This is what rvirga said:
"No big surprise here, the xenon flash of the N82 emits a brighter and warmer light than the i8910. The 5800 XM is just horrible, and it was included just to show that a dual led flash is not necessarily more powerful (and in this case, actually less) than a single led one.
The distance between the camera and the second door was about 3.5m (~11ft 6in). I wanted to test the phone in a worst-case scenario, namely a dark subject (the door), reasonably far away from the subject, in total darkness."
